Victor Wembanyama scored 30 points in his first NBA game on his native French soil, Devin Vassell added 25 and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Indiana Pacers 140-110 on Thursday night.
Wembanyama finished with 11 rebounds, six assists and five blocks for the Spurs. Harrison Barnes scored 20 for San Antonio, which won for only the second time in its last eight games.
The Spurs had a huge 57-31 edge in rebounding.

Bennedict Mathurin led Indiana with 24 points. Pascal Siakam added 18, Myles Turner scored 14 and Tyrese Haliburton and Obi Toppin finished with 13 each for the Pacers. Indiana had won eight of its last nine contests.

Takeaways
Spurs: San Antonio got forward Jeremy Sochan back on Thursday. He had missed 19 of the Spurs' last 34 games with injuries, including the last five. Sochan had 13 points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes, making six of his nine shots.

Pacers: Defense is Indiana's calling card, and it wasn't there on Thursday. The Spurs shot 60% for the game. Indiana is now 2-7 this season when opponents shoot 52% or better.

Key moment
The final 2:25 of the third quarter was a Wembanyama showcase: He had four points, three rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists in that span alone. It started with the Spurs up by 16; thanks to his tip-in with one-tenth of a second remaining, San Antonio went into the fourth with a 105-80 lead.

Key stat
Thursday was the fourth time that Wembanyama finished a game with at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five blocks. The only players with more such games in the last 50 regular seasons are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (24), Hakeem Olajuwon (14), and David Robinson and Shaquille O'Neal (11 each).

Game 43

NBA Game 43 Spurs v Pacers in Paris 98-136 L

Tyrese Haliburton scored 16 of his 28 points in a dazzling 2-1/2 minute display late in the third quarter, propelling the Indiana Pacers to a 136-98 victory over Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Paris Games finale on Saturday.

Pascal Siakam added 23 points for the Pacers, while Andrew Nembhard scored 15, Myles Turner had 14, Bennedict Mathurin 13, and TJ McConnell 12. Indiana led by 15 at halftime, fell behind by one in the third quarter, then pulled away in the second half.

Wembanyama recorded a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Spurs, who won the series opener by 30 on Thursday. Harrison Barnes led San Antonio with 25 points, and Stephon Castle added 17.

Wembanyama shot 7-of-16 from the field and also contributed two steals, two assists, and a block. Haliburton was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field during his late third-quarter outburst, with four of those shots coming from beyond the arc. The Pacers made seven of their final eight shots of the third to open a 15-point lead and never looked back.

This was the fourth time this season that the Spurs played a two-game series against the same opponent, and they have yet to sweep one of those sets, going 1-1 in their previous matchups.

Wembanyama checked out with 3:35 left, with the Spurs trailing 127-97, but still received a warm reception from the crowd in his homeland, and he applauded to show his appreciation.

After 43 Games, the Spurs are 20-23. There's some parity in the Western Conference so while our Spurs are out of the playoffs, if the season ended today, there are many more games still left to play. Check out the Western Conference Standings and you will see many teams between 18 and 23 losses. I keep saying PARITY is here so a good run by The Men In Black could push them back to true playoff contention. It starts tonight against the Clippers.
