Anthony Davis powered the Los Angeles Lakers to a 120-115 season-opening victory over the San Antonio Spurs, scoring 40 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. LeBron James added 15 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists, recording his fourth straight triple-double.
For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama had an impressive debut, tallying 28 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks. This came just two days after he scored a career-high 50 points against the Washington Wizards.
Davis shot an efficient 14-of-26 from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, in his highest-scoring game of the young season. Austin Reaves chipped in 19 points for the Lakers, while Dalton Knecht and D'Angelo Russell also reached double figures.
The Spurs raced out to an 11-0 lead to start the game, highlighted by an alley-oop dunk from Wembanyama to fellow 20-year-old Stephon Castle. However, the Lakers closed the first quarter on a 21-8 run to take a 31-30 lead, fueled by 16 points from Davis in the opening frame.
Castle finished with 22 points for San Antonio, and Devin Vassell added 15. Chris Paul recorded a double-double for the Spurs with 11 points and 11 assists, surpassing the 12,000-career-assist milestone in the process.
The key moment came late in the fourth quarter, with the Lakers clinging to a 116-115 lead. An offensive foul call on Paul led to a layup by James that gave Los Angeles a 118-115 advantage with 25 seconds remaining. The Lakers also dominated the offensive glass, outscoring the Spurs 15-6 in second-chance points.

Game Recap Game 14 Spurs @ Mavericks 93-110 L
Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford each scored 22 points, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 110-93 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night. The win snapped the Mavericks' four-game losing streak.
The Spurs were without their star center, Victor Wembanyama, who was sidelined with a bruised right knee and is considered day-to-day after getting injured in a home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday.
Zach Collins, Wembanyama's replacement in the starting lineup, scored a season-high 20 points for the Spurs. Julian Champagnie added 13 points, all in the first half.
Gafford's season-high scoring performance was part of a strong night for the Mavericks' bench, which contributed 54 points. Irving had missed the previous game due to a right shoulder sprain.
Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic was held to 16 points, just one above his season low, in a season-low 28 minutes of action. He also grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 6 assists.
The Mavericks exploited Wembanyama's absence, outscoring the Spurs 46-22 in the paint through the first three quarters. A key moment came late in the first half when Gafford blocked Tre Jones at the rim, leading to a Naji Marshall layup that gave the Mavericks the lead for good.
The Mavericks' dominance continued in the third quarter, as they outscored the Spurs 38-18 and shot 59.1% from the field compared to just 22.7% for the Spurs.

Spurs are now 6-8 with 68 More Regular Season Games to go. 69 Games if they happen to advance to the NBA Cup Final. I guess we are going to have to wait and see. Our team needs to be healthier and they are still weeks away from Jeremy Sochan's return.
Spurs play the Thunder again 11-19-24 for yet another NBA Cup Game. Let's hope Victor Wembanyama is back. There won't be Chet Holmgren on the other side due to a severe hip injury.
